Description
An upholstery fabric for upholstered furniture with test-proven fire retardant performance. It is used as upholstery, as furniture lining or beneath a top fabric that does not pass the tests on its own — in that role it works as a barrier layer, known as an interliner, and limits the spread of fire within the construction.
This lets you keep the upholstery chosen for its design and move the technical requirements to a layer that isn’t visible. The requirement usually applies to the whole upholstery composite rather than the top fabric alone, so the composite is tested and the collection’s design stays unchanged.
The material is used in furniture making — sofas, armchairs and upholstered beds — and in contract projects: hotels, student halls and public buildings, where a document has to be shown at project handover.
Scope of testing: BS 5852 Schedule 3 with the Crib 5 ignition source, Schedule 4 Part 2, Schedule 5 Part 3 and TB 117. The tests were carried out by recognised laboratories, including Intertek, SATRA and SGS. We provide the reports on request.
Using this material does not in itself determine the classification of the finished furniture — the result depends on the whole combination of materials, the construction and the test conditions.
